Diet Soda and Blindness

Diet Soda and Blindness

Diet soda but not regular soda with sugar doubles the incidence of diabetic retinopathy which can lead to blindness. More chemicals more disease...

This study, which can be read about here, is one of the most astounding pieces of research I have ever read. The sugar substitutes such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin have long been linked to a variety of health problems including cancer and toxicity to gut bacteria and the studies are often inconclusive. However, this study shows a clear differentiation between sugar substitutes and sugar. Chemicals are seductive because they give us an easy way out – you don’t need to avoid sweets because there is an artificial sweet that lets you indulge. But as always these chemicals turn out to be worse than thought the longer they are used. In this case, they have clearly caused blindness from diabetic retinopathy that didn’t need to happen.

So the clear message is - just don’t use chemicals in your food or products. There is always a natural alternative and it is always the better alternative.
